Volkswagen’s Jetta has long been a popular compact sedan throughout North America, noted for its high amount of interior space and cargo room. For 2022, the Jetta gets a host of updates including an updated engine, new interior features, and a refreshed exterior. With these changes, Volkswagen intends to remain as competitive as ever in the compact sedan segment, which frequently serves as the gateway to a brand.

In the powertrain department, the 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine makes 158 horsepower and can be mated either to a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission. Customers can now get a new Sport trim level of the Jetta (slotting in right above the base S trim) which adds an XDS front differential lock for better handling as well as graphite-colored 17-inch alloy wheels, blacked-out grille, mirror caps and window trim, along with dedicated sport seats.

As for equipment, the Digital Cockpit instrument cluster with an 8-inch display comes standard along with Car-Net. Higher-end Jetta trims get the MIB3 infotainment system standard along with wireless charging and wireless App-Connect. Available features include heated front and rear seats as well as front seat ventilation, a power driver’s seat, automatic climate control, 10-color ambient lighting, and a BeatsAudio sound system.

Those looking for driver assistance features will like the IQ.DRIVE which includes forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring, lane keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, Travel Assist (semi-automated driving assistance), and Emergency Assist (semi-automated vehicle assistance in a medical emergency). We’re looking forward to seeing how much better the updated Jetta is and we think new buyers considering a Volkswagen as their next vehicle will likely not be disappointed.
