For the 2022 model year, Jeep has performed a substantial update of the Compass with the changes most visible in the cabin and available equipment list. Notably, the amount of storage room inside has doubled while there is an available 10.1-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment screen in the dashboard. Handling has also been improved, with retuned suspension for a smoother ride and an upgraded steering for better responsiveness. All of these improvements come as the compact SUV market becomes ever more popular.

Importantly, many safety features come standard, such as forward collision warning with active braking, lane departure warning with lane keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-path detection. Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability and parking assist sensors are available on higher trim levels. Front LED reflector headlamps come standard while LED projector headlamps come to higher-end versions of the Compass.

Notable new options include a UConnect5 infotainment system with a frameless 10.1-inch display, a surround-view camera when parking, and a Highway Assist semi-autonomous driving system which can automate certain driving functions on approved highways. (Sport and Latitude trims get an 8.4-inch display.) Another option is a 10.25-inch frameless full-color TFT digital gauge cluster which can display a lot more information about the vehicle. Heated and ventilated front seats are available along with heated rear seats for the first time. Other features available on higher trims are a 9-speaker Alpine sound system and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof.

Shoppers will have five trim levels of the Compass to pick from: base Sport, midrange Latitude, well-equipped Latitude LUX, off-road dedicated Trailhawk, and top-end Limited. All Compasses get a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine making 177 horsepower paired with a 6-speed automatic on two-wheel-drive vehicles while 4x4 (all-wheel-drive) models get a 9-speed automatic. The Latitude LUX, Trailhawk, and Limited come standard with all-wheel-drive. Those considering the Trailhawk who are planning to venture off-road will appreciate the dedicated rock-crawl ratio and low-range.

Customers who plan to frequently venture off the beaten path will pick the Trailhawk, which has plenty of off-road hardware. Notable equipment includes an exclusive Selec-Terrain Rock mode, a 1-inch factory lift to deliver 8.6 inches of ground clearance, water fording up to 19 inches, high-strength steel skid plates, signature red front and rear tow hooks, 17-inch aluminum wheels and rugged, all-season performance tires. The Trailhawk also sports a 30-degree approach angle and a more aggressive exterior fascia.

The comprehensive update to the Compass showcases Jeep’s seriousness about the compact SUV market both in America and around the world for the foreseeable future. To make things even better for owners, 3 years of maintenance at dealers comes included along with 24/7 roadside assistance and first-day loaner coverage. With the comprehensive equipment updates and the completely revised interior, we anticipate that a lot more shoppers will be sliding behind the wheel of the new Compass.
