2023 Ford Ranger Preview

Around the world, the Ford Ranger has long been a popular choice in the midsize truck segment, offering a high degree of versatility and efficiency. After getting plenty of input from existing owners around the globe, for 2023, Ford has unveiled an updated version of the Ranger with a bolder design on the outside and a more modern interior. Going on sale in European markets first where midsize pickups are very popular, the Ranger is aimed at farmers, commercial fleets, and small business owners.

On the outside, the updated Ranger shares styling cues with the popular F-150, something that shoppers will like, and LED matrix headlamps are available. The inside sees the potential inclusion of the SYNC 4 infotainment system with a large portrait-style touchscreen (with the choice of 10.1 inch or 12-inch variants). Markets outside the United States get a choice of three turbocharged diesel engines, while the North American version of the Ranger will likely retain its current powertrain.

Other notable changes include the front wheels being moved forward for a better approach angle when off-road and the rear suspension damper being moved outboard to provide a better ride for people and cargo. Customers will still have a choice between two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive systems. Options include a 360-degree camera, helpful when parking or on a tight trail, and an exterior zone lighting system which assists when camping in the dark.

Those who will use the Ranger for work will like the interior storage areas with as a deep center console bin, a plastic-molded bed liner, extra cargo tiedown points, and an integrated side step behind the rear wheels. The updated Ranger will be built at Ford’s manufacturing centers in Thailand and South Africa in 2022 with American-market Rangers to be built at a later date. Ford’s 2023 Ranger will likely appeal to a wide range of customers, from those considering their first-ever pickup truck to those looking to downsize after years in full-size pickups.
