2023 Kia Telluride Preview

Difficult to test drive, let alone obtain, from its debut in 2019, the sought-after Telluride family SUV gets a mid-cycle makeover for the 2023 model year. Notably, according to Kia, existing owners of the Telluride have the most brand loyalty when coming back into the market for a new vehicle, something which speaks for the satisfaction that the current version provides. Along with some styling refinements, new changes include the addition of X-Line and X-Pro trim levels.

The most notable changes are on the outside, and they include a revised vertical LED headlamp design, new bumpers and grille, as well as new wheel designs. Inside, the Telluride can be had with dual curved 12.3 display screens (one for the instrument cluster and one for the center infotainment system), new interior color packages, and a redesigned steering wheel. Navigation now comes standard along with WiFi hotspot capability.

Those who plan to venture onto unpaved paths with their Telluride every so often may appreciate the new X-Line and X-Pro trims. The X-Line gets a different grille, exclusive 20-inch wheels, 10mm higher ground clearance, improved approach and departure angles, an upgraded traction control system, and a towing mode for the powertrain. Stepping up to the X-Pro brings 18-inch wheels wrapped with 18-inch Continental all-terrain tires, a 110-volt inverter outlet in the cargo area, and an increased towing capacity from 5,000 to 5,500 pounds.

Other new tech features consist of an optional full-display rear-view mirror, a smart power liftgate, and a Digital Key which allows owners to use their iPhone, Apple Watch, or Samsung Galaxy smartphone to lock, unlock, and start their Telluride. There is also Smart Speaker Integration that lets customers utilize Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant-enabled smart speakers to remotely control some functions.

Characteristics that have remained unchanged are the 3.8-liter V-6 that makes 291 horsepower and the available self-leveling rear suspension for added comfort. Standard and available safety features include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Safe Exit Assist, Driver Attention Warning, High Beam Assist, Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control, Lane Following Assist, Highway Driving Assist, Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist and Intelligent Speed Limit Assist. We’re thinking the 2023 version of the Telluride won’t do anything to dent its current popularity, and the changes might enhance its appeal to families even further.
