Quick Take: 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid
This week, the Cartrast team was able to get behind the wheel of the 2022 Hyundai Tucson and take it for a spin up and down Highway 1 in Half Moon Bay. The version we drove was the top-end Limited with the hybrid powertrain which pairs a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with an electric motor to generate a combined 226 horsepower while delivering 37 miles per gallon combined in both the city and on the highway. As one of Hyundai’s most popular vehicles, we were interested in experiencing the redesigned Tucson and find out the impressions that compact SUV shoppers will come away with.
One characteristic of the Tucson Limited that we liked very much was the interior. With gray leather seats, ambient lighting, heated and ventilated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof, the inside was quite airy and comfortable. Other features included on the high-end Limited trim were heated rear seats, smart cruise control that worked in stop-and-go traffic, a digital key, LED headlights, and an 8-speaker Bose sound system that we enjoyed. A surround-view monitor was especially helpful when we were parking.
On the roads of Half Moon Bay, we found the Tucson to be a pleasant and efficient highway cruiser that soaked up the miles with ease. Our test vehicle came with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster that could display our blind spot utilizing outside-mounted cameras when the turn signal was on on top of another 10.25-inch display for the navigation and infotainment systems. Remote smart park assist also comes with the Limited and enables the Tucson to slot into tight parking spaces, though we didn’t have the opportunity to try out the feature for ourselves.
With the compact SUV market becoming ever more competitive by the day, the 2022 Tucson Hybrid Limited takes things up a notch with its standout combination of a very well-designed interior and efficient powertrain. We really cherished our time with the Tucson Limited and we think customers will appreciate the interior and exterior ergonomics of the vehicle. It’s very likely that the 2022 Tucson will find its way onto even more car shopping lists in the near future.
