As the compact SUV market in the United States becomes even more competitive, Volkswagen has refreshed the Tiguan, its best-selling model in the lineup, for 2022. Notably, the 2022 model has a new front end with a redesigned bumper and grille along with standard LED headlights and daytime running lights. In addition, new features such as the IQ.DRIVE driver assistance suite and the MIB3 infotainment system are available on the updated Tiguan.

More equipment now comes standard, such as the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit instrument cluster with an 8-inch display (while a 10-inch Digital Cockpit Pro display is available with higher trim levels), Volkswagen Car-Net with in-car Wi-Fi capability, as well as heated front seats. Front Assist, Side Assist, and Rear Traffic Alert safety features come equipped on all Tiguans too. Ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, 15-color ambient lighting, and a Fender sound system are available on higher-end trim levels.

Notably, the new IQ.DRIVE driver assistance suite and MIB3 infotainment system come on all Tiguan trims except the base level. IQ.DRIVE brings Front Assist (Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Monitoring), Active Side Assist (Blind Spot Monitor), Rear Traffic Alert, Lane Assist (Lane Keeping System), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) Stop and Go, Travel Assist (semi-automated driving assistance), and Emergency Assist (semi-automated vehicle assistance in a medical emergency).

There will be four trim levels to choose from: base S, midrange SE, well-equipped SE R-Line, and top-end SEL R-Line. The Tiguan still retains its 184-horsepower 4-cylinder engine paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission while 4Motion all-wheel-drive is optional with all trim levels. Front-wheel-drive models come with a third row of seats, while 4Motion-equipped Tiguans are 5-seaters only.

Expected to arrive at dealers during the third quarter of 2021, we’ll be counting on the updated 2022 Tiguan to keep the characteristics that make it popular while the updated styling and technology will be making a strong play to bring new customers to Volkswagen.
