Towards the end of March, Kia debuted its new EV6 dedicated electric vehicle. Built on a dedicated electric vehicle platform, the EV6 has a flat battery under the floor which provides interior room similar to a compact SUV. In addition, the EV6 can travel over 300 miles on a single charge when specified with a long-range battery and two-wheel-drive. To be produced in South Korea, the EV6 should give Kia’s updated take on what an EV should be.

In the powertrain department, customers can pick between long-range (77.4 kWh) and standard-range (58.0 kWh) high-voltage battery packs as well as two-wheel or all-wheel drive options. The all-wheel-drive-equipped EV6s can accelerate from a standstill to 100 kilometers per hour in 5.2 seconds. Customers wanting even more performance can get the EV6 GT which can go to 100 kph in an even more breathtaking 3.5 seconds.

As for comfort, there is a curved infotainment screen while the standard relaxation seats have fabrics created using recycled plastics. Also, plenty of interior storage is available with back seats that can fold to accommodate extra cargo as well as a front trunk. Furthermore, the EV6 has an 800-volt ultrafast charging capability, allowing the battery to charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes and give 100 kilometers of range in less than 5 minutes.

Welcome tech features include 12-inch dual screens with curved displays that lessen the impact of light to make them more readable, an augmented reality head-up display system, and remote smart parking assist which allows a driver to slot the EV6 into a tight parking space while standing outside the car. A notable option is the 14-speaker Meridian sound system with active sound design which provides drivers with audible feedback to the speed that the car is travelling.

Once the EV6 goes on sale during the second half of this year, consumers will have one more choice in the burgeoning electric-vehicle market and range should not be as big a factor as in the past. With the ability to combine an extensive amount of range on a full charge, ample interior room, and compelling performance, EV shoppers should be receptive to the EV6.
