Quick Take: 2019 Nissan Altima
The Cartrast team recently had the chance to spend a few hours with the 2019 Nissan Altima. For the 2019 model year, Nissan released a completely redesigned Altima, with a sharper-looking exterior and with an interior on par with entry-luxury sedans. A new available feature for those in slippery climates is an all-wheel-drive system, which our test car had. In addition, this Altima is more fuel-efficient, with EPA ratings of 26 miles per gallon in the city, 36 on the highway, and 30 combined, very impressive numbers for an all-wheel-drive midsize car without a hybrid powertrain.
With a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine generating 182 horsepower, the Altima didn’t struggle going up steep hills and never hesitated to get up to speed during highway driving. Furthermore, the all-wheel-drive system gave us the additional grip for the Altima to grip in tight corners, plentiful in Northern California where we drove the car. The SL trim level of the Altima we drove comes standard with a Bose sounds system, leather upholstery, navigation, and Nissan’s ProPILOT Assist with intelligent cruise control. We used ProPILOT Assist on the highway and it’s surprisingly intuitive to set and effective, immediately matching the speeds of slower vehicles ahead.
At $32,930 including the destination charge, it’s difficult to find another all-wheel-drive midsize sedan that offers what the Altima 2.5 SL AWD we drove has. With ProPILOT Assist included and the exceptionally well-designed dashboard, the Altima can make your daily commutes relaxing too. In the end, the Altima is a solid choice in the very competitive midsize sedan market.
