Quick Take: 2023 Genesis GV60
With the advent of electric vehicles becoming more considered than ever due to high gasoline prices, Genesis has released an EV for shoppers looking for an upscale experience but who do not want a large vehicle in the form of the GV60. Similar in size to a compact crossover with a seat height to match, the GV60 is suited for urbanites and suburbanites looking for their next premium vehicle who prefer a smaller size without sacrificing any luxury features. We managed to get some seat time with the GV60 during the Motor Press Guild Drive Day event and after some time with the GV60, we think Genesis has designed the ultimate city car.
The GV60 we drove was the Performance trim which comes only with all-wheel-drive and electric motors at the front and rear that generate a combined 429 horsepower. Range is up to 235 miles on a full charge. As a dedicated electric vehicle, no compromises are made with the performance and handling, something which we found out behind the wheel of the GV60 in the windy roads of Malibu, California. Traction when accelerating out of slow corners was remarkable, likely helped by the electronically-controlled suspension as well as the electronic limited-slip differential, and acceleration on the uphill sections was unparalleled, delivering characteristics on par with some popular sports sedans.
As for comfort, the GV60 Performance comes with numerous luxury features such as a Vision Roof with a power shade, Nappa leather seating, microfiber suede headliner, driver’s seat with power cushion extension, power bolster, and Ergo Motion, as well as ventilated front seats. Tech features include dual 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment systems, navigation, head-up display, Bang & Olufsen sound system, and a facial recognition system that allows owners to unlock their GV60 by standing in front of the B-pillar as well as a fingerprint reader in the center console that lets them start the GV60 once inside. Our test vehicle had the ash gray and glacier colored interior with quilted leather that made it a quite a pleasant place to be.
In the end, we think the Genesis GV60 shows the ultimate potential of what electric vehicles have to offer, with its ability to accommodate numerous high-tech features without a care in the world. And as a relatively compact vehicle, the GV60 can easily zip around the city while delivering a very high degree of comfort. We think whoever picks up the GV60 will certainly fancy their ownership experience.
