Quick Take: 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer
Full-size luxury SUVs are very difficult to keep in inventory at the moment for numerous dealers across the country. While this phenomenon has been occurring, Jeep has released the ultra-luxury-oriented Grand Wagoneer, designed to compete with the Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator, Mercedes-Benz GLS, BMW X7, Lexus LX 600, and the Range Rover. During the Western Automotive Journalists’ Media Days event, we managed to get some time with the Grand Wagoneer, coming away dazzled by the amount of luxury we sampled.
The first impression we had after climbing into the Grand Wagoneer was that it was immense both on the inside and outside. Thankfully, the power side steps whir down when opening the doors, making ingress and egress significantly easier. Once you’re in the driver’s seat, there is a simple unobstructed view of the road ahead as well as plenty of space for passengers to stretch their bodies in all three rows. Our test vehicle had the 6.4-liter V-8 making 471 horsepower, which provided more than enough force when driving up and down Highway 1.
In the area of luxury, our fully-loaded Grand Wagoneer Series III test vehicle did not disappoint. Standard features on the trim level included a 23-speaker McIntosh sound system, a dedicated infotainment display for the front passenger, a dedicated comfort display for passengers in the middle row, a digital rearview mirror (very helpful when parking), quilted leather, an interior rear monitoring camera, and 24-way power-adjustable front seats with massaging capability. Options on our tester were embossed-metal accents in place on walnut trim, lending to the premium feel of the cabin and the Rear-Seat Entertainment Group which brought dual 10.1-inch rear-screens with Amazon Fire TV built-in for the middle passengers.
Overall, we came away supremely impressed with the large Grand Wagoneer. The amount of technology and luxury on offer was simply staggering for us to experience and we think customers will be awed once they set foot in the cabin of a Grand Wagoneer. Ultimately, the Grand Wagoneer will provide an avenue for the well-heeled to stand out in a line of ever more expensive upscale SUVs.
