Quick Take: 2022 Honda Civic Si
Now considered a moniker for the sportified version of the Honda Civic, when the “Si” nameplate was introduced over 30 years ago, it actually stood for “Sport-injection”, which meant that Honda had added a fuel-injection system to the car for added performance. Since then, fuel injection has become the norm for vehicles sold throughout the United States and “Si” began to signify the sport-oriented trim of the ever-popular Civic. With the Civic having been redesigned for the 2022 model year, a new Si has followed, and we wanted to see what it was like.
All Civic Si’s come with a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine making 200 horsepower mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. No automatic transmission is available, making the Si almost purely for the enthusiast market, while the only bodystyle is that of the practical 4-door sedan. Other performance equipment includes a limited-slip differential, rear spoiler, and 18-inch alloy wheels shod with high-performance summer tires, all of which contributed immensely to an enjoyable driving experience on the curving roads near the Pacific Coast Highway in Half Moon Bay. The front sport seats were comfortable and exceptionally supportive undeterred by the performance nature of the car.
Despite being the sport-focused version of the Civic, plenty of additional standard features abound, such as a 12-speaker Bose audio system, blind spot information system, LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, road departure mitigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and a 9-inch color touchscreen for the infotainment system. The only option on our test car was Blazing Orange paint color. MSRP on the Civic Si we drove was $28,910, making it very competitive, if not much less expensive than competing front-wheel-drive sport compact cars from other brands.
With the 2022 Civic Si, Honda continues to be a go-to for customers searching for a practical, reasonably-priced sport sedan. And to underscore the affordability factor, the Civic Si is rated by the EPA at 27 miles per gallon in the city, 37 on the highway, and 31 combined. This generation Si will be embraced wholeheartedly by car enthusiasts and it’s difficult to imagine it going away anytime soon.
