Quick Take: 2022 Genesis G70

While we were attending 2021 WAJ Media Days earlier this week, we spent some time with the 2022 Genesis G70 3.3T in rear-wheel-drive form on the winding back roads of Half Moon Bay. Redesigned with the intention of sharing the same design language with other Genesis models, the G70 still retains many of the characteristics which we liked in 2019. With a twin-turbocharged V-6 making 365 horsepower, the G70 3.3T was no slouch and put a smile on our faces whenever we could put the throttle down.

The most visible changes on the new G70 were the crest-shaped grille along with 2 lines of quad-LED lamps in the back as well as the new 10.25-inch multimedia display in the center of the dashboard. Comfort was not an issue, with 12-way power front seats, each with 4-way adjustable lumbar support. Our G70 test car came equipped with the Sport Advanced Package, which adds 19-inch wheels, ventilated front seats, a 15-speaker Lexicon sound system, a Genesis digital key, and a variable exhaust system that we really liked when driving spiritedly.

Additional options came with the Sport Prestige Package, which added a heads-up display, a surround view monitor that was useful when parking, Nappa leather seating which enhanced the look of the interior, electronic suspension, a Brembo braking system, and a limited-slip differential that made the G70 stand out from other premium compact sedans in the handling department.

As we drove down Highway 1, we came away with an excellent impression of the 2022 G70 as it manages to have performance vehicle characteristics while retaining the practicality of a 4-door sedan. With a distinctive design and an engaging driving experience, we’ll be surprised to see anyone who comes out of the G70 with a frown on their face.
