Last month, Acura previewed their redesigned fourth-generation MDX, the best-selling three-row luxury SUV of all time in America. Slated to go on sale in mid-2021, Acura aims for the MDX to continue its run as a popular choice for families looking for upscale transportation. In addition, for the first time, Acura will be offering a performance-oriented Type S version of the MDX to become more competitive with its peers in the three-row midsize luxury SUV segment.

The standard powertrain choice is a 3.5-liter V-6 mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission with customers having to pick between front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive. Those stepping up to the all-wheel-drive only Type S get a 3-liter turbocharged V-6 making an estimated 355 horsepower. Handling has been improved with the first-ever double wishbone front suspension on the MDX, which should also ameliorate ride comfort. In addition, Brembo four-piston brake calipers for better stopping power come on the MDX along with the Intelligent Dynamics System, which enables drivers to choose between different handling modes.

Notable new features include Acura’s all-digital Precision Cockpit, which replaces the gauge cluster with a 12.3-inch screen. The infotainment system has its own separate 12.3-inch screen that can be controlled through the True Touchpad Interface. Audiophiles will appreciate the new Signature Edition ELS STUDIO 3D sound system with more than 1000 watts of power, 22 discrete channels and 25 speakers as well as six ceiling-mounted Highline speakers and six carbon fiber coned mid-range woofers.

Those looking for comfort will like the optional sport seats with 16-way power adjustment and integrated massage functionality that also have nine massage modes to relax the driver and front passenger. In addition, there is more legroom for all three rows while an ultra-wide panoramic moonroof lets the natural light come in. Furthermore, to make the cabin an even more pleasant place, the Iconic Drive LED feature can illuminate the interior with 27 different lighting schemes tied to driving modes and representative of various locations, such as iconic roads and race circuits around the world.

At this point, the already popular MDX will become even more sought after with the new version. With styling that cleans up the lines of the current model, families will like the look of the new model along with the features that bring the new MDX on par with the competition. We’re looking forward to getting behind the wheel and seeing how much fun all the passengers can potentially have in 2021.
